In literature the characteristics of the 'consumer' of bad art are even easier to define. He (or she) may want her weekly ration of fiction very badly indeed, may be miserable if denied it. But he never re-reads. There is no clearer distinction between the literary & the unliterary. It is infallible. The literary man re-reads, other men simply read...One may have some hopes of a man who has never read the Odyssey, or Malory, or Boswell, or Pickwick: but none (as regards literature) of the man who tells you he HAS read them, & thinks that settles the matter. It is as if a man said he had once washed, or once slept, or once kissed his wife, or once gone for a walk.
C.S. Lewis

Then Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, & the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot. He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its clans & the clan of the Matrites was taken by lot; & Saul son of Kish was taken by lot. But when they sought him, he could not be found. So they inquired again if the Lord, "Is there a man still to come?" & the Lord said "Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage." Then they ran & took him from there. And when he stood among the people he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders upward...

1 Samuel 9

i think king saul must be one of the most misunderstood political figures ever.
